The Benefits of Replacing Your Furnace and AC Together

Your heating and cooling systems have many components that work together to create a perfectly balanced environment in your home. Today’s furnaces and air conditioners feature important enhancements that comfort equipment—as recently as even 10 years ago—did not have. These improvements allow customers to benefit from the following if upgrading as a whole system:

Enhanced Efficiency

Air conditioners are now rated by the term SEER, or “Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio.” This ratio equates the amount of cooling your air conditioner produces relative to the energy used to produce that cooling. These new higher efficiency units can have a 16+ SEER rating compared to the 7 to 12 SEER ratings of older systems. The SEER ratings are all based on a “matched” system. If a 16 SEER air conditioner is installed with an older single speed blower, it will not achieve the higher efficiency ratio that a matched new system will achieve.

Savings

In addition to improved comfort and energy efficiency, there is also an installation savings when both components are replaced together. Rather than reworking the sheet metal and refrigerant lines twice, as well as two separate deliveries and two separate permits, a system installation can take care of all of these items at the same time saving you, the homeowner, money.

Responsive

Higher efficiency air conditioners now have the ability to speed up or slow down based on outside conditions. To allow this to work properly the air conditioner needs to be paired with a furnace equipped with a variable speed blower, which also has the ability to “talk” to the air conditioner. The greatest advantage of having a furnace and air conditioner that communicate with each other, allowing the equipment to respond to environmental elements greatly increases your home comfort. These systems can lower humidity as needed in the summer much more efficiently than an older system. Furnaces today can operate at a much lower and quieter blower speed. Imagine if your car heater or air conditioner only ran on “max”… That same lack of control is how the old heating and cooling systems operated.
