Types of ACs

1. Window AC – Such types of systems are most commonly used in homes and small offices. These are more inexpensive than other air conditioners and are able to fit in a personal room, bedroom or hall. They are comprised of a compressor, a condenser, an expansion coil, an evaporator, etc. all housed in one box. 2. Split AC – These devices are suitable for those rooms where there are no windows. They are usually installed when one does not want to disturb the whole setup of the place. Two main parts of such systems are – indoor unit and outdoor unit. The indoor part is installed inside the room and produces a cooling effect. The outdoor part is placed outside the room and consists of a condenser coil, a compressor and capillary tubing.

Window & Split systems are used for a capacity up to 5 tons.  So, other types of systems are also available to work for larger loads.

1. Packaged AC – These air conditioning systems are utilized for cooling loads that range from 5 to 20 tons. They are available with the fixed load of 3, 5, 7, 10 and 14 tons.
2. Central AC – These are employed for cooling loads of more than 20 tons. They are suitable for areas like hotels, buildings, shopping malls, airports, etc. In such systems, there is a separate plant room in which all huge parts like the condenser, compressor, evaporator, quality valve, etc. are kept. They operate like conventional refrigeration systems.
